John Coulthart reminds us in comments that a few years back London Transport was previously outraged by Grien's cavorting witches (1514):

I could have been THIS Eddie Campbell:

Britain isn't known as the "nanny state" for nothing.
ReplyDeleteThe strip with Alan is a scream. Having had the chance to get to know him and hang out with him in the early 90s I can attest that he is a very, very nice man indeed.
That seems a rather mild thing to object to. It was a bit more understandable a few years ago when London Transport objected to posters featuring Hans Baldung Grien's cavorting witches.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever run into trouble for all the nudes I paint (one of which is hanging where I teach, right now) it's good to know that I'll have you to back me up.
ReplyDeleteWell...you guys did elect Maggie Thatcher numerous times. Don't brag too much.
ReplyDeleteFour hundred years pass and something you did can still cause a scandal... some cohones he had, Cranach!
ReplyDeleteSince some pictures of nice bums I had taken (of classical Roman statues, no less) got banned by photobucket, these things don't astonish me anymore. Just another reason to love Cranach, if there was a need for one...
