Blithering idiots.
I was looking forward to saying something about the Toepffer books, Father of the Comic Strip, and The Complete Comic Strips, from Mississsippi University Press, but they sent my order surface mail and it will take three months to get here. You'd think with the amount of intelligence housed in such an establishment they would figure that a fellow eager to part with ninety seven bucks for two books would be happy to pay air mail to get them within ten days. I told them I would mention on my blog what blithering idiots they are, and that's what i'm doing here. And if it seems too harsh, i'm too upset to think about it properly.
Labels: cranky old bastard.

I guess that in the world of academia, where people take a leisurely decade or so to complete their PhDs, the idea of waiting a few months for a couple of books is maybe no big deal.googly23
Is it too late to cancel them? Amazon are doing the pair for $81.00. Not meaning to depress you even further. Mick
they hit my bank card five weeks ago. I've been harrassing the mail-man every day for the last two weeks.
I foolishly thought I'd give the publisher the extra percent.
wotta dope.

Mississippi. Yep. A bunch of blithering idiots.
Blithering cheapskates by the sound of it.
If it's any consolation I've been waiting over a month now for Amazon UK to find a copy of 'Butt Book: Adventures in 21st Century Gay Subculture' to send me. This is a Taschen volume that would have had a huge print run and yet I wait and wait... Gits.
OMG. I'd be tearing my frickin' hair out (but then I'd look like my husband-ack). I have NO patience when it comes to waiting for books.
I agree-blithering idiots is putting it lightly.
Hey John C, it looks like one of our other shops may have a copy in hand. May not be as cheap as Amazon (we have it at the rrp of £19.99), but do you want me to get them to reserve it for you/send it to you/send it down to London? They're closed at the moment, though, so I can't confirm for sure that they can lay their hands on it until wed morning.
Drop me a line on marcusgipps at yahoo dot co dot uk if you want to give it a go at full price, and I'll let you know how we get on.
We return you to your discussion of rubbish booksellers...
Marcus
I was lucky enough to find someone in my own country (UK) who had Father of the Comic Strip in stock, through the Amazon "Used and New" list.
I didn't get The Complete Comic Strips. You'll see from my review here that the opening chapters of Father are hard to follow without reading the strips first - so start with that volume when your copies eventually turn up.
Even stranger: as of Monday, surface international mail was eliminated here in the US... everthing goes Air. Weirdsville
Thanks Marcus but they've got my money as well since I bought some other stuff in a job lot; this was the oustanding item. Next time I think I'll search a bit more diligently beforehand.
Speaking of butts (ahem), and on topic since it's comics-related, someone has drawn a near-nude Spider-Man (TM) riposte to a piece of typical Marvel (TM) sexism here:

I'd have preferred to see him in white boxer briefs but you can't have everything...
