there are only two things. Truth and lies. Truth is indivisible, hence it cannot recognize itself; anyone who wants to recognize it has to be a lie."- Franz Kafka

in other news:
I just had lunch with my pal Daren White who mentioned that, after the whole rigmarole of starting school and explaining the days of the week and weekends and all that to his two wee'uns, he now has to explain why Wednesday Comics doesn't come out till Thursday. It's not even about shipping and distances any more, it's just that it's Thursday here when it's still Wednesday there. This is the first major comics confusion since the lads announced that the three leading members of the Justice League are Superman, Batman and Womany-man. Ever after, in our circle, Wonder Woman has been known as 'womanyman'.

It comes out on Wednesday down here. Maybe when QLD catches up to daylight savings and 1960s "social values"...

When and why did you do this Kafka pic Eddie?

I've wanted to do a collection of Kafka short stories in comic book for for a while. His work is my biggest 'literary interest' to paraphrase the man himself. Right now I'm working on a sample to propose to a NY publisher.

Just watched last years Bookslut interview with yersel. You DO have a Scottish accent...
and one very similar to that which comes from my mouth too.

Sean,
Kafka is one of 24 author-portrait bookmarks for a Brisbane shop called Bent Books. Follow the link in my text for a page showing 18 of them. he must have let his web designer go or something, so it's incomplete, but if you click the label you'll get a showing of most of the missing ones.
I'm trying to recall where you reside. is it Singapore? Taiwan? Anyway, best of luck with Kafka.
And, yes, I'm mighty pleased with the Bookslut interview. ta.

I just replied to your Japanese edition of From Hell, saying i live in Japan (never made it to Australia yet)

You came over well in that interview, good mix of charming and serious. I will check that link for Bent Books now (what a name for a shop...)

Let's do the Kafka book together!
Thats would be a very pleasing development for me...

In all seriousness, even if you don't do it with me, then why not do one yourself? Your art style would suit Kafka's short sketches and more substantial short stories i think. It's been a long time since a illustrated version of his stories was done (Peter Kuper, about 14 years ago), and even then he did only a handful of them.

Recently the UK publisher Self made hero, pals of mine, brought out a version of The Trial. But most of the shorts remain unattempted.... yet very do-able. If you have a book of his to hand please have a look at one like 'A message from the Emperor' or 'In the gallery'
- wonderful stuff, love it, love it. 1st second might be interested in such an book possibly? It not them I'm making the script sample for, but another similar NY bunch.

Sean,
I already have more than one speculative thing out there and don't have the heart to work up more such, but If somebody offered to hire me to do it I'd be amenable.

Thanks for letting me know the situation Eddie. If I receive any firm offers I will get back to you to see if you're interested.
